Learn about the history of traditional sake brewing as a part of Japan’s living cultural heritage at the Sake Museum
Kinki District Transport Bureau
Hakushika Memorial Museum of Sake, lovingly nicknamed the “Sake Museum,” is located in Nishinomiya City in Hyogo Prefecture. Nishinomiya is located approximately 20 km west of Osaka, in the eastern part of Nadagogo, Japan's largest sake brewing area, between Mt. Rokko and the Seto Inland Sea.
The museum consists of two buildings, the Sakagura-kan and Kinen-kan. At the Sakagura-kan, which was built in 1869 and housed the original Tatsuuma-Honke Sake Brewery, visitors can explore the traditional sake brewing process by watching videos, listening to the songs of sake brewing, and even handling traditional sake brewing tools.
The Kinen-kan has three exhibition rooms: the Planned Exhibition Room, the Sake Reference Room, and the Sasabe Sakura Reference Room. Various exhibitions about works of art, sake, and sakura (cherry blossoms) are held according to the season.
At Hakushika Classics, a shop and restaurant next door, visitors can enjoy sake tasting for a fee, shopping, and dining.
