Experience making a fire and using it to cook lunch while interacting with the blessings of the forest
ZIVA SCRUM ENA General Incorporated Association
This program is designed for participants to experience the relationship between “forest” and “fire.” Amidst the tremendous natural beauty of the Nenoue Highlands, you will learn how to prepare firewood, various ways to start a fire, and methods for taking care of the forest.
Under the guidance of an instructor, participants begin the experience by chopping firewood with an ax. Then, you will start a fire using traditional Japanese ignition methods such as the maikiri method, and enjoy a lunch of grilled rice balls and pork miso soup with a variety of ingredients at the program campground.
After lunch, we will move to the forest adjacent to the Nenoue Highlands, where the instructor will explain the process of nurturing the forest, such as thinning out the trees with a hand saw where they are growing too close together and are not getting enough sunlight. After this is complete, we will then hang up hammocks for a relaxing time with tea.
