Explore the yuzu groves, former railways, and pristine nature of a Japanese Heritage Site in Kochi Prefecture, combining local food with e-biking.
Kochi Prefecture
Experience a part of Japan visitors rarely get to see on this nature and food tour through the forests and yuzu citrus groves of Kochi Prefecture.
The four-day tour meets at Nahari Station, where you will hop on an e-bike and head to the mountainous area along the Yasuda River, with stops at a retro movie theater and a lunch of seasonal ingredients (including some of Japan’s best sweetfish) before biking by remains of tunnels and bridges to overnight at Umaji Onsen.
On day two, get to know the yuzu-producing village of Umaji and meet locals while you pick yuzu and enjoy the timeless views. Another bike ride will take you to the pristine Yanase area to have a BBQ dinner and sleep in a serene lakeside cottage. The following day is spent exploring the village and lake while biking down the Nahari River toward Kitagawa Onsen, the most popular hot spring hotel in the area.
On the last day of the tour, you will learn how to make inaka sushi, the Kochi specialty of “countryside-style” sushi made from local vegetables. Then follow the forest-lined trails back down toward the coast and Nahari, where your adventure ends.
