Relax in a lovingly renovated traditional townhouse immersed in the retro townscape of a port town in Fukui Prefecture.
Fukui Prefecture
At Auberge Homachi Mikuniminato, guests can stay in nine buildings and 16 guest rooms housed in beautifully renovated townhouses that combine modern comfort with traditional architecture.
Mikuni Minato is a historic town that thrived throughout the mid-Edo period (1603-1867) to the Meiji period (1868-1912) thanks to the Kitamae-bune ships, which started in Osaka and traveled through the Seto Inland Sea and Sea of Japan, trading wares at various ports on their way to Hokkaido. Thanks to this tradition of exchange and trade, many elegant homes and storehouses were built here and have been well-preserved over the years.
By staying in townhouses dotted around the town, guests can get a feel for what it must have been like during the height of the Kitamae-bune trade through the original storehouses, courtyards, and furnishings.
Get to know more about the town on walking tours that connect you with the traditions and culture of Mikuni Minato, and enjoy cuisine crafted from Fukui’s finest ingredients, produced by renowned chef Tateru Yoshino.
