Enjoy an expansive view of the Seto Inland Sea that includes more than 50 islands and the magnificent Seto Ohashi Bridge
Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture
Located in the Kojima district of Kurashiki City, Washuzan Hill stands 133 meters above sea level and looks out over the Seto Inland Sea. Its name comes from the fact that when seen from the ocean, it resembles an eagle spreading its wings.
The top of the hill commands a beautiful view of the magnificent Seto Ohashi Bridge along with a little more than 50 large and small islands. The view only becomes more superb during sundown—the silhouette of the bridge against the setting sun is why the hill was selected as one of the 100 Best Sunsets in Japan. Moreover, the Seto Ohashi Bridge is lit up after sunset on Saturdays (and some Sundays), and Washuzan Hill offers a beautiful night view of the bridge’s colorful lights and their reflection off the water.
The Washuzan Rest House near the second observatory sells souvenirs and offers delicious seasonal food with seating overlooking the water. In addition to the view, visitors can enjoy hiking around the hill accompanied by the fresh sea breeze, while there is also an amusement park nearby that can be enjoyed by both children and adults.
