Gourmet Specialties From The Boso Peninsula
Chiba's Boso Peninsula, just two hours from Tokyo, has year-round mild weather and calm seas. The environment yields both prized crops and delicious seafood, making it a hotspot for gourmet specialties.
Ise Shrimp
From August to October, Chiba's Sotobo region yields Ise Ebi, a small spiny lobster found in the nutrient-rich fishing grounds of Kikaine and Isone. These lobsters are prized for their sweet, firm flesh.
Namero
The Boso Peninsula is famous for namero, a simple dish that makes the most of a fresh catch. It consists of raw mackerel, miso, scallion and white sesame, all finely hand-chopped and mixed into a rich paste. There are many restaurants in the area that serve namero as well as other local specialties, such as spiny lobster.
Rapeseed Blossom Cuisine
The Boso Peninsula is famous for dishes that make use of rapeseed (nanohana) flowers and leaves. Many restaurants near the Boso Flower Line prepare the slightly bitter greens in a variety of styles, from pickled to stir-fried.
