Ethereal, lamp-lit snow huts at Iiyama Kamakura Village
Every year between late January and late February, a makeshift village of 15 to 20 kamakura snow huts is created just north of Iiyama City. During this time, the Kamakura Village Restaurant is open to travelers who want to dine in their own kamakura. After a day on the slopes, wind down in your lamp-lit snow hut with an Iiyama delicacy, noroshi nabe. This miso-based hot pot dish filled with local vegetables, mushrooms and pork warms up both body and soul. Reservations are required for the Kamakura Village Restaurant.
The Kamakura Festival is held during the second weekend of every February at the Kamakura Village. Enjoy live music, the traditional Japanese activity of mochi pounding, various snow activities and a nighttime fireworks display.
