Winter adventures in the mountains of Gunma
Manza Onsen is one of Japan’s most renowned high-altitude hot springs, nestled in the mountains at 1,800 meters. From this height, you have an excellent vantage point over breathtaking winter scenery. The variety of hot spring waters draws many visitors, as each hot springs lodge draws its water from a different source.
The neighboring Manza Onsen Ski Resort provides a wide range of winter snow sports and activities. The resort offers package plans for both rental gear and ski passes.
Nearby, at Manza Karabuki, volcanic emissions billow nearly constantly from an ancient volcano crater. There is an observation deck near the Manza Onsen bus terminal where you can get a view of the volcanic steam jets that rise from between the rocks on the mountainside.
How to get there
Manza Onsen is 2 hours 30 minutes from Tokyo by a combination of shinkansen, local train and bus.
Take the bullet train from Tokyo to Takasaki Station and change to the Agatsuma Line. Get off at Manza Kazawaguchi Station. From Manza Kazawaguchieki bus stop it's a 45-minute ride to Manza Onsen bus terminal.
