A romantic wintry village of igloos and lanterns
The Kamakura Village at Onogawa Onsen in Yonezawa, Yamagata Prefecture makes an appearance every year between January and March. You can order Yonezawa-style ramen from the kamakura — a great way to stay warm inside these snow huts.
While visiting the Onogawa Onsen, you can also enjoy the natural hot spring waters that flow into every lodging in the town. Many of the inns serve an authentic Yonezawa beef dinner.
Another event that takes place in winter in Onogawa Onsen is the Uesugi Snow Lantern Festival, held every year on the second weekend of February in Matsugasaki Park.
