Magical Mt. Fuji views from Oshino Hakkai

Oshino Hakkai is a series of eight ponds fed by Mt. Fuji’s underground reservoir. The clean, clear mineral-rich ponds, nestled in the scenic village of Oshino and connected by quaint walkways and wooden bridges, are part of the Mt. Fuji World Heritage Site. In the winter, the thatched rooftops and surrounding landscape are covered in snow.

While the view of Mt. Fuji from Oshino Hakkai is beautiful year round — and recognized as one of the 100 best views of Mt. Fuji in Kanto — the striking “Diamond Fuji” phenomenon can only be seen in winter. "Diamond Fuji" is when the rising or setting sun perfectly aligns with Mt. Fuji's peak and appears to be cradled by its caldera. It is at its most striking when viewed from Oshino Hakkai.

How to get there

The nearest train station is Fujisan Station on the Fuji Kyuko Line. From there, take a bus about 10 minutes to the Oshino Hakkai Iriguchi bus stop.
