Tokachigawa Onsen Hakucho Festival Sairinka

An immersive world of light and sound

Tokachigawa Onsen is host to the Hakucho Festival, which is named after the swans that visit the area in the thousands. The Sairinka light installation is the main draw and sees around 50,000 visitors every winter.

Hundreds of conical shaped objects form a rhythmical audiovisual show for you to experience as you walk around in the dark. There are two distinct movements: the first section creates a calming atmosphere before visitors are treated to a more dynamic display of light and sound in the second.

There are other events to enjoy at the festival during the day: adults and children alike can try their hand at snow rafting and watch how soap bubbles freeze in the intense cold. However, as Tokachigawa is an onsen area, there is ample chance to escape the subzero temperatures and warm yourself in the soothing hot springs.

How to get there

Tokachigawa Hakucho Festival Sairinka is a 30-minute bus ride from Obihiro Station. If you are staying at Tokachigawa Onsen, it is a 10-minute walk from the town.
