Miyako Odori Dance Performances 都をどり
Geiko and maiko dancing to music in timeless splendor
The Miyako Odori, which translates literally as "Capital City Dances" and refers to Kyoto's former status as the nation's capital, is a must-see annual show featuring geiko and maiko apprentices dancing in their finest garb.
How to Get There
The Gion Kaburenjo Theater, where the performances are held, is easily accessible via public transport.
Access the theater via bus or train from Kyoto Station 
. The nearest subway station is Gion-Shijo on the Keihan subway line. The theater is about 8 minutes on foot from the station.

The 50-minute-long performance of exquisite dance, song, and theatrical repertoire by the geiko and maiko of the Gion Kobu district is just another reason to head to Kyoto in April. Opportunities to see these elusive entertainers are rare since private audiences are difficult to arrange without an introduction and can be rather pricey.
The Miyako Odori is held every afternoon from April 1 to 30 with four performances daily. You can purchase tickets at the door or make a reservation in advance.
You can combine your Miyako Odori experience with a visit to Maruyama Park , Kamogawa , or the Philosopher's Path for a perfect spring afternoon or evening.
