Seto Ohashi Bridge (Great Seto Bridge) 瀬戸大橋

A majestic white-steeled architectural wonder soaring both into the sky and distance, the two-tiered Seto Ohashi Bridge is a seaside landmark connecting Honshu, Japan's main island, to Shikoku against the backdrop of the Seto Inland Sea.

You can get close and cross the bridge by train, bus or car. From Takamatsu and Okayama, take the JR Marine Liner. Buses to Memorial Park take 20 minutes from Sakaide Station.

An architectural and engineering masterpiece, the 13-kilometer bridge showcases three forms of structural technology. Part cable-stayed, part suspension and part truss bridge, different segment designs make a tour across the bridge—one of the longest bridges in the world—a definite must.

Many scenic viewing points and attractions are nearby for visitors to enjoy. One highlight is Seto Ohashi Memorial Park, a large recreational area offering spectacular views of the bridge. The park also features souvenir shops, a rooftop observation platform, Japanese gardens and a children's play area.

Combine your visit to the bridge with a trip to the Higashiyama Kaii Setouchi Art Museum. The museum boasts a collection of 350 works, including woodblock paintings by one of the great masters of Japanese painting, Kaii Higashiyama. On the first floor, order a coffee at the museum cafe and take in the picturesque views of the Seto Bridge and vivid blue sea.
