A New Chapter Begins in Kyoto’s Historic Geisha District — Imperial Hotel, Kyoto
March 5th, the Imperial Hotel, Kyoto officially opens its doors in the heart of Gion. Originally built in 1936 as Yasaka Kaikan, the historic building once served as a theatre for performances, dance, and music, and has long been connected to both the local community and visitors. For generations, people gathered here to experience art shaped by discipline, tradition, and devotion to craft. Now, the landmark begins a new chapter as a hotel. Just steps from Yasaka Shrine and the narrow streets of Gion, it offers rare access to Kyoto’s living culture while blending heritage with contemporary luxury.
