Experience Kushiroshitsugen's wetlands ecosystem through educational exhibits, canoeing, and nature walks
Lake Toro Eco-museum Center "Arukotto" is located on the shore of Lake Toro on the eastern side of Kushiroshitsugen National Park. The center mainly focuses on wetland water ecosystems, with diorama exhibits that depict marshland terrains like tussock grass (yachi-bozu) and quicksand. There are video panels that introduce the wildlife that lives in and around the lake.
You can walk along the center's lakeside promenade to immerse yourself in nature and listen to wild birds. If you want to get an even closer view of the wetlands, canoes are available to rent in the summer and autumn. The forest paths around the visitor center are another option for strolling in nature, and are ideal for forest bathing. Backpackers and hikers can take advantage of the campground in the area.
