A welcoming facility where you can learn about Sanriku Fukko (reconstruction) National Park

The Ishinomaki Kawano Visitor Center is located at the mouth of the Kitakami River, where it flows out into the Pacific Ocean, just north of the port city of Ishinomaki.

The visitor center is a welcoming place to relax and learn more about Sanriku Fukko (reconstruction) National Park. Inside, there are exhibits on the landscape, wildlife and culture of the Ishinomaki area’s rugged stretch of coastline. Leaflets and maps of the park are available, including maps of each section of the 1,000-kilometer-long Michinoku Coastal Trail.

Staff can update you on trail conditions, suggest activities in the area, and provide information about community events and revitalization projects. The visitor center’s facilities include an outdoor terrace with seating, a lounge area with a stove, indoor showers, and a children’s play area.

The neighboring Kitakami Tourism Products Exchange Center sells local goods and is ideal for picking up snacks or souvenirs. Next to the visitor center is a park where you can see a memorial of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami of 2011.
