Access to Jodogahama Beach and information on trails and sightseeing spots
The Jodogahama Visitor Center is a base for learning about the natural environment of Jodogahama Beach and Sanriku Fukko (reconstruction) National Park. You can access the Jodogahama Beach boardwalk directly from the visitor center and purchase tickets for sightseeing boat trips to Blue Grotto, a sea cave in Jodogahama Bay, from the sightseeing boat ticket office next door.
The first floor of the visitor center provides guidance on the Michinoku Coastal Trails and nearby sightseeing spots, as well as information on plants, animals, and historical sites. On the second floor, you can see panoramic views of the rocky beach below. The third floor displays information on the natural environment and ecosystems of Sanriku Fukko (reconstruction) National Park. It has a video corner where you can sit on chairs made to look like smooth rocks. Here you can watch footage of the national park shot from land, sea and aerial perspectives.
The visitor center offers hands-on activities like nature programs, culinary lessons, and craft workshops that change throughout the month. Depending on the season, you may be able to try sea kayaking, join a trekking excursion, make mochi (rice cakes), weave a basket using traditional techniques, or try your hand at other crafts. Some programs may charge a small fee to cover the cost of materials.
