A place to learn about the Michinoku Coastal Trail and meet other hikers
The MCT Natori Trail Center was established to provide information about the Michinoku Coastal Trail and is located on the edge of Natori City, south of Sendai. Stretching for over 1,000 kilometers from Aomori Prefecture to Fukushima Prefecture, the Michinoku Coastal Trail traces the beautiful, rugged coastline of northeastern Japan, hit by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.
Stop by the MCT Natori Trail Center to get useful information on hiking the Michinoku Coastal Trail and for exploring Tohoku’s eastern coast. MCT Natori Trail Center staff can provide updates on trail conditions and recommendations for activities in the area at the information desk.
The large lounge and sunroom at the center were designed to be relaxing spaces where hikers could easily meet each other. There are maps and displays relating to the Michinoku Coastal Trail, as well as exhibits on Japan's hiking culture and other long hiking trails.
Amenities at the center include showers, vending machines, a coin laundry with dryers, baggage storage, phone-charging ports and a shoe washing spot. Trail walkers can buy equipment and clothing for the trail at the shop.
The center was built on land devastated by the tsunami, and construction is still ongoing around it. A campsite is planned for the near future. The Yuriage Harbor Morning Market and the Natori City Earthquake Memorial are both located near the center.
