Sanriku Fukko (reconstruction) National Park

Minamisanriku Marine Visitor Center

Try water activities, learn about ocean ecosystems, and enjoy sweeping views of Shizugawa Bay

The Minamisanriku Marine Visitor Center is a base for learning about Sanriku Fukko (reconstruction) National Park's ecosystem and for water sports such as sea kayaking, snorkeling, stand-up paddleboarding, and hiking.

Knowledgeable staff are happy to teach visitors about the Minamisanriku area's environment. The main hall features exhibits on the plants and animals that can be seen in the region's forests, rivers, and ocean. The center also has a classroom for school field trips and nature seminars and a room for handicraft workshops and culinary lessons. During the winter, you can try making your own postcard out of local seaweed.

Take a break in the lounge space, which has sofas on the first floor and an outdoor terrace on the second floor with expansive views of Shizugawa Bay. A small shop on the first floor sells souvenirs, and there are changing rooms and a shower for cleaning up after enjoying water activities.
