Learn about the relationship between humans and nature on the Tanesashi Coast

The Tanesashi Coast Information Center is a hub for information about the Tanesashi Coast, Mount Hashikami, and the Michinoku Coastal Trail that runs along Tohoku's eastern coast.

At the heart of the center is a display with photographs and models that present the concept of "humans living in harmony with nature." There are exhibits on the Michinoku Coastal Trail and wildflowers that can be seen throughout the year. A panorama features aerial footage of Sanriku Fukko (reconstruction) National Park. Every two months, the staff update their recommendations for the best nature sightseeing spots based on the season.

The lounge offers views of the ocean and a grassy lawn that was formerly a pasture for horses. Outside there are benches for visitors to relax on.

The Tanesashi Coast Information Center hosts a variety of nature programs and workshops each month. Programs include making art using natural materials, fishing for sea urchins, guided walks along the coast at different times of the day, and cooking lessons using ingredients from the area. Some of these programs charge a fee to cover the cost of materials.
