Walk, jog, or bike around a vast park with natural highlights year-round
Showa Kinen Park in Tokyo's Tachikawa area is so vast that exploring it all would take an entire day on foot. The park is known for the many kinds of flowers that carpet its grounds throughout the year. Its rows of ginkgo trees are also a beloved fall sightseeing spot. In winter, the park is lit with dreamy winter lights.

How to Get There
Showa Kinen Park is about 40 minutes from central Tokyo by train.
Because of its enormous size, the park has several gates. The two most convenient ones are near Nishi-Tachikawa Station (a two-minute walk) and Tachikawa Station (a 10-minute walk). Both stations are on the JR Chuo Line, and are easily accessed from Shinjuku Station.

Showa Kinen Park would take an entire day to walk around. If you're looking to see all the park has to offer, rent a bicycle and explore in style. You can pack a Japanese bento lunchbox and cycle the grounds in search of the perfect picnic spot.
Visit the Japanese garden
Get your camera ready, because you don't want to miss the Japanese garden inside the park. Laid out in traditional Japanese landscaping style, the garden is ideal in any season. There's even a traditional sukiya-style teahouse where you can enjoy a cup of green tea.
